Elon Musk, tech billionaire and erstwhile Trump ally, unleashes a barrage of criticism on a key Trump administration project. He labels the tax and spending bill as a "despicable abomination." On his platform X, Musk decries the legislation's potential to exacerbate the colossal budget deficit and mounting national debt.

Known as the "great magnificent bill," this legislation narrowly scraped a victory in the House of Representatives in May. However, several Trump loyalists in the Senate have voiced their skepticism. They vehemently oppose the planned hike in the debt limit and advocate for steeper spending reductions.

The reaction from the White House was nonchalant: as presidential spokesperson Karoline Leavitt put it, "The president is well aware of Elon Musk's perspective on this law." Trump remains undeterred in his support for the proposal.

The legislation encompasses various components, such as the perpetuation of tax cuts from Trump's initial term. It would be financed by slashing investments in social programs – a move staunchly opposed by Democrats.

Intriguingly, Musk's criticism was echoed by Bernie Sanders, a Democratic senator: "Musk is spot-on," he posted on X. Sanders pointed out the staggering $664 billion in tax breaks for the affluent, contrasted with the $290 billion in cuts to food assistance for the underprivileged.

"I can no longer bear it"

Not long ago, Musk had criticized the bill in a more measured tone. Last week, he lamented the dilution of his proposed economies in government spending by the committee he heads, Doge. During a CBS interview, he admitted to being "in quite the quandary" because he didn't wish to besmirch the government yet felt reluctant to condone its decisions. This time, Musk prefaced his scathing criticism with, "I apologize, but I can no longer bear it."

Musk contributed over $250 million to Trump's presidential campaign and served as a close confidant to the president. He cited the 130-day limit on external government officials for his departure from Washington. Nevertheless, recent developments hint at a waning influence of Musk in Trump's circle.

  1. Elon Musk, in a shocking turn of events, has extended his criticism to the employment policies of EC countries, stating that the current policies, much like the tax plan he has been criticizing, could exacerbate the burgeoning budget deficit and national debt.
  2. The ongoing political discourse over the general news, centered on policy-and-legislation, has seen an unexpected entrant in the form of Elon Musk, who, going against the narrative of politics as usual, has raised his voice against employment policies that he believes could harm the economic well-being of citizens.
