Tragic Death of Rapper Xatar: Cologne's Gangster-Rap Icon

Musician Xatar, known for his genre-defining gangster rap, has passed away.

In the grim shadow of Cologne, the beat of the streets echoes with sorrow. The enigmatic figure of Xatar, the rugged yet charismatic gangster-rapper, has met his demise. At just 43, Giwar Hajabi, the man behind the music, was found lifeless in his apartment last Thursday evening. The cause of his untimely passing remains a mystery.

A spokesperson for the Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the grim news. As investigators delve deeper, they seek to uncover any traces of "criminally relevant external influence" that may have led to Xatar's tragic end. Postmortem findings thus far reveal no evidence of external violence. The probe continues.

Born to a renowned composer and conductor and a musician in Iran, Hajabi took his first breath in 1981. His family fled to Iraq in the 1980s and eventually found refuge in Bonn. As he grew up, he relocated to Cologne and embarked on a trailblazing journey in the rap scene. In 2008, he established Alles oder Nix Records, a label that soon gained traction in the industry, signing promising artists like SSIO and Schwesta Ewa.

Criminal Endeavors and Prison Life

Xatar thrust himself into the spotlight in 2009, after masterminding a explosive heist of a money transporter, hauling away gold worth a staggering €1.7 million. In 2011, he was sentenced to eight years in prison for his crime. Unfortunately, the proceeds of his grand larceny remain elusive to this day.

Ironically, his incarceration propelled him to fame, earning him nationwide acclaim. He recorded his critically acclaimed album "Nr 415," named after his prison cell, from behind the bars of Rheinbach prison. Upon his release in 2014, he returned to the spotlight with a bang, with his album "Baba aller Babas" soaring to the top of the German charts.

Entrepreneur and Businessman

Xatar was not just a musician. He dabbled in the jewelry business, owned a doner kebab shop, and ran a shisha bar. In 2022, he unveiled the "Goldmann Tower" in Cologne, previously intended to be the flagship of his new music label, Goldmann Music. By 2023, Goldmann Music had filed for insolvency. The life of Xatar resonates in the forthcoming film "Rheingold" by director Fatih Akin.

Recent reports have suggested that Xatar had been grappling with health issues. In 2021, a health scare prompted him to take a weekly day off. Additionally, he revealed that he had shed an impressive 50 kilograms after his doctor warned him about his health.

Marina Buzunashvilli, Xatar's former promoter, has shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram story, "Until we meet again." Fellow rappers Haftbefehl and Farid Bang also paid tribute to their fallen comrade.
