Musician Thierry Escaich Plays Organ at Liebfrauenmünster Ingolstad
In the heart of Bavaria, the Liebfrauenmünster in Ingolstadt played host to a remarkable organ concert on August 10, 2025. The event, part of the "Orgelfestkonzert" series, featured the renowned French master organist and composer, Thierry Escaich.
The concert, organized by Michaela Mirlach, the deputy chairwoman of the Verein der Freunde der Musik am Münster, was a significant event in Ingolstadt's musical life for the year. The audience, filled with music enthusiasts, gave Escaich standing ovations, indicating their appreciation for his captivating performance.
Escaich, the titular organist at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris since 2024, opened the concert with works by Johann Sebastian Bach. His performance was a testament to his virtuosity as an improviser, a trait that has made him a standout figure in the international organ scene.
The concert program was a delightful journey through time, encompassing pieces from the Baroque era to modern improvisation. It included works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Pierre Cochereau, Igor Stravinsky, and Arvo Pärt. Escaich's own work, "Evocation III," was particularly well-received by the audience.
As the grand finale, Escaich improvised over the church hymn "Nun danket alle Gott," transforming it into a monumental sound painting that left the audience in awe. David Kirschsieper, the new regional cantor, ensured a smooth musical performance as registrar and assistant during the concert.
Unfortunately, detailed information on the concert repertoire or specific highlights of Escaich’s performance at this event is scarce. However, selected recordings of the concert will be broadcast on BR Klassik during the festival season on August 23, 2025, offering music lovers a chance to relive the magic of the concert.
It is worth noting that tickets for the event were free of charge, and no information about a broadcast of the concert was found, suggesting either no broadcast or no publicly announced one. David Kirschsieper captured Thierry Escaich's performance in a photograph, immortalising the magical moment.
The concert set new standards for Ingolstadt's musical life in 2025, leaving the city's music enthusiasts eagerly anticipating future events. Thierry Escaich's performances are known to fill great halls around the world, including the Paris Philharmonic, Vienna, Berlin, and New York concert halls. His concert at the Ingolstadt Liebfrauenmünster was no exception, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
