- Music Prize awarded to opera singer Quasthoff in Rheingau region.

Famed Lied and opera vocalist Thomas Quasthoff is the lucky recipient of the Rheingau Music Prize 2025, boasting a grand total of 10,000 euros in prize money. This prestigious award, hailing from the Rheingau Music Festival in Oestrich-Winkel, has been gracing talented musicians for a whopping 32 years.

Minister of Culture Timon Gremmels (SPD), Hesse's cultural heavyweight, lavished some praise on our victorious vocalist, declaring: "Quasthoff's voice tugs at our heartstrings with its mesmerizing tone, awesome skill, keen attention to musical intricacies, and courage." Quasthoff's commitment to nurturing the next generation of vocalists is just the icing on the cake: "He educates young talents, instilling in them a passion for precise singing that moves audiences."

The Rheingau Music Festival team describes the 65-year-old Quasthoff as a reigning music monarch, having dominated the international music scene for five decades with his extraordinary bass-baritone voice and unparalleled expressiveness and versatility.

You can catch Quasthoff accepting his well-deserved accolade during a concert on August 26 at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden. Past winners include the likes of violinist Gidon Kremer (1996) and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Barenboim (2020), as well as violinist and pianist Julia Fischer (2024).

The 38th annual staging of the Rheingau Music Festival will run from June 21 to September 6, with approximately 150 events scattered between Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate on both sides of the Rhine. The festivities will take place in castles, museums, wine estates, cloisters, churches, and hotels, with open-air concerts also on the agenda. Mixing up the classical selections will be a smattering of pop and jazz performances.
