Music group OMD unveils lavish 40th-anniversary version of their album 'Crush'
On the 40th anniversary of its original release, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) will unveil an expanded reissue of their iconic album "Crush". The deluxe edition, set to be released on October 10, 2025, promises a wealth of previously unreleased tracks, B-sides, remixes, and archival material.
Originally released in 1985, "Crush" has been remastered from the original analogue tapes for this special reissue. The collection will be available in various formats, including a 2CD edition, 2LP black or coloured vinyl, and digital editions.
The original album's tracklist remains unchanged, featuring hits like "So In Love", "Secret", "Bloc Bloc Bloc", and "88 Seconds In Greensboro". The deluxe edition, however, offers a second disc or LP that includes seven previously unreleased tracks, such as "Wheels of Steel" and "Lana Turner v.1", as well as B-sides and remixes like "Concrete Hands" and "Firegun".
The 2CD edition pairs the original album with a second disc of rare material, while the 2LP vinyl edition features the seven unreleased tracks but omits some B-sides and the extended mix of “So In Love” due to format constraints. An exclusive clear-vinyl 2LP is available through the band’s UK webstore.
Each format includes a booklet featuring rare photographs and liner notes by journalist Jason Draper, who conducted an insightful conversation with Andy McCluskey, singer and bassist of OMD. McCluskey reflects on the period around "Crush", noting the intense touring and studio pressure, yet expressing pride in the album's lyrical themes and "confidence and energy".
The reissue of "Crush" serves as a testament to OMD's enduring success. With over 40 million records sold and 14 top-20 albums in the UK, the band has left an indelible mark on the music industry. OMD formed in Meols, Merseyside, England, in 1978, with Andy McCluskey (vocals/bass) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards/vocals) moving on from their earlier project the Id.
After a brief hiatus, OMD reunited in 2006 with McCluskey, Humphreys, Cooper, and later added drummer Stuart Kershaw. The reformed OMD has continued to release new albums and tour internationally, encompassing a mix of their experimental sound and new releases.
Pre-orders for the deluxe editions of the "Crush" reissue are now available via the band's UK webstore and the USA webstore for local shipping rates. This deluxe reissue offers fans and collectors a detailed look at the work behind "Crush", celebrating its 40th anniversary while providing a glimpse into OMD's enduring legacy.
