Let's Rock 'n' Roll! Celebrating 30 Years at Rock im Park
Music enthusiasts brace for an unexpected blend at Rock in the Park festival.
Nuremberg (dpa) - The sporty lads from Sportfreunde Stiller kicked off the final day of Rock im Park in an unexpected move, livening up the crowd early in the morning. The sun was shining after two rainy days, making it the perfect day for music fans. Later on, heavyweights like The Prodigy, Bring Me the Horizon, and K.I.Z were ready to rock the stage! But beware, more rain and powerful gusts of wind might grace us today.
In honor of Rock im Park's 30th anniversary, the organizers planned two surprise concerts for the last day. "You lot are here bright and early, and that's simply grand," said Peter Brugger, frontman of Sportfreunde Stiller, speaking to the already slightly exhausted fans. Despite the tiredness from two lengthy festival days, many joined in to sing, clap, and dance along. As a bonus, the band invited singer Soffie and the British indie-rock group The Subways to join them onstage.
With nearly 90,000 music enthusiasts and an impressive 100 concerts spread across four stages, Rock im Park is bigger and better than ever this year. In sync, the twin festival Rock am Ring in the Eifel is also celebrating its 40th anniversary, featuring almost the same lineup of bands playing at different times.
Though not explicitly mentioned as surprise acts, some standout performances from the festival include:
