Mark Snow, the renowned composer best known for creating the iconic theme music for the hit television series The X-Files, passed away today at his home in Connecticut at the age of 78. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Born Martin Fulterman on August 26, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, Snow was educated at the prestigious Juilliard School. He began composing for television in the late 1970s, eventually earning 15 Emmy Award nominations throughout his career.

Snow's most significant achievement came in the 1990s when he composed the hauntingly memorable main theme for The X-Files, which was released as a single in 1996 and enjoyed international chart success. Beyond the theme, he composed music for over 200 episodes of the television series and both of its feature films.

Snow's impact was profound and enduring, making him a legend in television music composition. His extensive TV work includes composing scores for other notable American shows such as Blue Bloods, Smallville, and Hart to Hart.
