Entrance fees for many museums in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are becoming more expensive - Museums in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania hike prices—but some offer free entry
Museums across Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are raising their admission prices in 2026. The increases come as institutions face higher operating costs. Some venues will also introduce new exhibitions and free-entry periods to mark special occasions.
The Schwerin Palace Museum will charge visitors €13 for a single ticket, up from €8.50. Meanwhile, the German Oceanographic Museum has set its adult entry fee at €20 for both the Ozeaneum and the main site, a rise from €18. The Natureum on the Darss Peninsula will also see prices climb to €10, compared to the previous €8.
At Ludwigslust Palace, tickets will cost €9 once the West Wing reopens on May 30, 2026. Smaller palaces, including Bothmer, Granitz, Güstrow, and Mirow, have increased their admission from €6 or €6.50 to €9. Hohenzieritz Palace, previously priced at €3, will now charge €4.
The State Museum Schwerin, however, will offer free entry for four years after its reopening on October 30, 2025. In summer 2026, the museum will host Between Magic and Technical Breakthrough: Colour in 19th-Century Glass Art, curated by Dr. Maria Lehmann. The German Oceanographic Museum will also mark its 75th anniversary with a special exhibition on Prof. Dr. Otto Dibbelt.
The price adjustments reflect growing financial pressures on cultural sites in the region. Several museums will balance the changes with new exhibitions and temporary free-entry schemes. The updates take effect from late 2025 through to 2026.
