Murderer of Julia Solomatin receives 17-year sentence, accomplice and nursery cook mother gets 2 years

The Court's Decision:Today, February 5, in the Frunzensky District Court of Minsk, the verdict was delivered.

Pavel Tsynavsky, the culprit behind the tragic death of 18-year-old Yulia Solomatina, received a 17-year prison sentence. The first five years will be served in a high-security facility. His mother, Galina Tsynavskaya, was sentenced to two years in a medium-security prison.

A compensatory payment of 1.5 billion rubles was ordered for Tsynavsky, and his mother was mandated to pay 500 million. The court also ruled that Tsynavsky's apartment on Chigladze Street in Minsk should be confiscated, and its value credited towards the victim's moral compensation. The Tsynavskys are further obligated to pay 15 million rubles for the legal fees of Yulia Solomatina's mother and 18 million rubles for the destruction of her belongings.

Tsynavsky appeared in court with a bruise over his right eyebrow and under his eye. No clarification was given regarding the cause.

Testimonies from acquaintances, neighbors, and relatives of the Tsynavsky family were discussed during the reading of the verdict. It emerged that Galina Tsynavskaya worked as a cook in a kindergarten. Occasionally, Pavel Tsynavsky caused uproars and even threatened people with a knife, shouting, "I'll kill, I'll stab!" But he never pointed the knife at his mother.

The court proceedings indicated that the tragedy could have been averted. Tsynavsky requested a friend to contact Yulia Solomatina. The friend phoned her, but she rejected meeting a drunk person. However, the friend led her to believe Tsynavsky was merely "a bit unsteady." Consequently, Solomatina agreed to meet, considering the decision for herself.

During the verdict reading, a jury member fainted, leading to a 15-minute break. There were many reporters and family members of the deceased present.

As stipulated by the prosecutor, Tsynavsky was given a 17-year sentence, and his mother received a two-year term. The defense attorney pleaded for leniency for their clients, suggesting a 7-year sentence for Tsynavsky and a 1-year term for his mother.

A lawyer representing Yulia Solomatina's mother advocated for the case to be reclassified as provided by part 2 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code. This reclassification could result in capital punishment, the most severe punishment the law provides.

Interesting Scoop:Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, shared his stance on the Yulia Solomatina case during a press conference on January 29. Lukashenko left no room for ambiguity, stating plainly that Tsynavsky and his mother "killed, dismembered with their mother, chopped into pieces and buried somewhere." Lukashenko further expressed his firm stance, vowing, "No one will sway me from this decision, despite the demands of European 'democrats' to abolish capital punishment. The people have decided this, and that's that."
