Mural of Home Front Workers Emerges in Tomsk in Commemoration of 80th Anniversary of Victory
In an informal, engaging style, let's delve into the latest street art project unfolding across 11 cities in Siberia, hailed as "cities of labor valor." Kicking off in the vibrant city of Tomsk, this initiative is being spearheaded by none other than Sber, a prominent financial institution in the region.
A massive mural depicting Tomsk's role in World War II triumph has gracefully adorned a building on Prospekt Komsomosk, 64. Artistic mastermind Marina Yagoda, an acclaimed artist whose work adds color to cities in Russia, China, Thailand, Germany, and Spain, took the reigns for this captivating composition.
Sber Bank has tirelessly championed this thematic project, which is being brought to life in the cities of Siberia showcasing labor valor. The unifying theme thread through this series of murals, created by the New-Siberian street art bureau "Taknado," is the remarkable contribution made by the locals during the war years. Each city's historical military period, its aid to the front, and the spirit of the people have been subtly woven into the overall design.
"Tomsk marked the first step in our journey with this incredible project. From an artistic perspective, the mural pulls inspiration from Soviet monumentalism and breathes new life into it while looking exquisite in a modern context. Overcoming our native Siberian climate challenges, it was a magnificent sight to finish the work ahead of schedule - it just wouldn't work any other way," shared artist Oleg Shubin with excitement.
Local officials reminded us that during World War II, a significant hospital complex was established in Tomsk, providing much-needed care to wounded soldiers. The city's universities also accelerated the production of essential specialists for the nation and conducted scientific research to bolster the military might of the nation.
