WDR sets course for the future with 'Tatort' duo from Münster - Münster’s *Tatort* duo signs long-term deals to keep solving crimes on screen

The popular Tatort Münster series will continue with its long-standing detective duo. Axel Prahl and Jan Josef Liefers have been solving news on screen since 2002, drawing millions of viewers each week. Their future with the show has now been secured with new long-term contracts.

The Broadcasting Council’s Rundfunkkommission has approved extended deals for both actors. While the exact duration remains undisclosed, the contracts ensure their roles in Münster’s Tatort will last for years to come. The decision follows the show’s enduring success and strong audience numbers.

A new episode has also been greenlit for production. WDR, the broadcasting network, confirmed the move as part of its commitment to the series. Prahl and Liefers will return as the investigative pair, maintaining the format that has kept fans engaged for over two decades.

The duo first appeared in October 2002 and has since become a staple of German television. Their chemistry and the show’s storytelling have made Tatort Münster one of the most-watched news series in the country.

With fresh contracts in place and a new episode on the way, the Münster Tatort team remains a key part of WDR’s programming. The network’s decision guarantees that Prahl and Liefers will keep solving cases for viewers in the coming years. The series shows no signs of slowing down after more than 20 years on air.
