Munroe Bergdorf voices her thoughts on backlash and solidarity at Together For Palestine event: "Advocating for voices to be amplified"

In a powerful display of solidarity, Munroe Bergdorf, a prominent activist, spoke at the "Together For Palestine" concert held at London's Wembley Arena on Monday, September 20. The event, organised and curated by Brian Eno, featured a star-studded lineup including artists like Brian Eno, Jamie XX, Gorillaz, Damon Albarn with the Juzour Dance Collective, and performers such as Yasiin Bey, Paul Weller, and Rachel Chinouriri. Celebrities like Riz Ahmed, Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Gere, Florence Pugh, and Nicola Coughlan also attended the event near me.

Bergdorf, who has faced personal and professional backlash for being a staunch supporter of Palestinians, emphasised the importance of speaking up. She stated that the conflict in Gaza affects the entire world and not just Palestinians. Bergdorf expressed hope that the concert would raise a significant amount of money for people in Gaza and healthcare workers.

The concert raised just under £1.5million for the 'Together For Palestine Fund'. The funds will be distributed to Palestinian-led organisations such as Taawon, Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and Palestine Medical Relief Service. Bergdorf encouraged others to get involved in activism, communities, and organisations to feel like they're doing more for the cause.

The event took place a day after a UN commission concluded that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza. However, Israel denies accusations of genocide or war crimes. Bergdorf emphasised that the hardships faced by Palestinians are far greater than any personal or professional backlash she might face.

Munroe Bergdorf described the mood backstage as "all kinds of people from all industries, all walks of life, just coming together for humanity." She felt the event was the most important moment of their generation and hoped it would inspire others to organise and fundraise in their own communities.

Bergdorf did not mention any specific performances or speakers at the concert beyond what was mentioned in the earlier bullet points. However, she did express concern that if something happens in Gaza, it will eventually affect other parts of the world. Bergdorf advised others wishing to contribute to the cause to use what they're good at to add to the collective, and to see allyship as a way to feel less hopeless.

Bergdorf reminded herself that the concert was more than just a moment. She hoped it would inspire others to take action and make a difference, not just for Palestinians, but for humanity as a whole.
