Municipal Council Seat Allocation in 2025 Local Elections

In the municipal and Integration Council elections held on September 14, 2025, the city of Gütersloh witnessed a shift in its political scene.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) emerged as the strongest party in the new city council, securing 21 seats. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) closely followed with 14 seats, while the Green Party (Alliance 90/The Greens) gained 10 seats. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) will have 2 members in the new council, and Citizens for Gütersloh (BfGT) will have 4 seats.

The Left will also have a presence in the new council with 4 seats, and POLONIA GÜTERSLOH will have 2 seats. The Turkish Association List and the Aramaic/Assyrian (Syriac Orthodox) communities will each have 2 seats in the Integration Council. Wasilissa and Pinar Sarilkan will have 1 seat each in the Integration Council, with Sarilkan running as an individual candidate.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) entered the council with 9 seats, marking their first appearance in the city's Integration Council. The International List won the Integration Council election and will have 3 seats.

The voter turnout for the 2025 election was slightly lower than in 2020, with 13.9% of eligible voters casting their ballots compared to 47.9% in the previous election. A total of 37,201 valid votes were cast in the 2025 election.

The newly elected city council will consist of 64 members, and the newly elected Integration Council will convene on November 14, where committees will also be formed. The election committee will meet on Tuesday, September 17 to officially confirm the results.

Mayor Matthias Trepper thanked all voters for their participation in the elections and expressed his anticipation for the upcoming work of the new councils.
