Munich, 1860: The outcome of the Muteba experiment proves to be unsuccessful
New Life at TSV 1860 Munich for Eliot Muteba
Status: Uncertain

The Gist
Eliot Muteba, a speedy up-and-coming winger, has returned to TSV 1860 Munich following a loan stint at Illertissen. However, his future at the club remains uncertain, much like a defender in Munich.
Backstory
The Lions, sensing Muteba’s potential, signed him during sporting director Christian Werner’s debut with 1860 in January 2024, alongside Abdenego Nankishi (Werder loan) and Max Rheinthaler (Wiesbaden long-term sub).
Time for Muteba and 1860 Munich to Part Ways?
Although Muteba agreed to a simple salary, his tenure at TSV 1860 has been far from impressive. Despite being an official squad member again, mutual separation seems to be on the horizon[2]. Sticking points include his inability to fully showcase his talent under former coach Giannikis and at Illertissen under Holger Bachthaler.
Inconsistent Performances
Muteba’s performance data over the past year is underwhelming. With just ten appearances for 1860 in the 3rd league, seven appearances in the U21 team (with three goals), and twelve appearances for regional league side Illertissen (one goal), it seems that he hasn’t yet cracked the top level[2].
On a more positive note, however, Muteba won a Toto Cup with Illertissen and previously a regional championship with the Angolan selection team[1].
For both parties, this arrangement appears to have been an experiment gone awry. The Lions will likely move forward with their second division promotion project without Muteba[2], while he is set to embark on a fresh challenge elsewhere.
Insights
- Muteba's future with 1860 Munich seems uncertain, and discussions about transfer or release are taking place due to his underwhelming performance[2].
- The club plans to strengthen its squad in the midfield and attack to achieve a roster size of 28 players by the beginning of the season[2].
