Mumbai's scorching heat to ease as monsoon showers approach by June

Mumbai is bracing for a shift in weather as the monsoon season approaches. After days of high temperatures and humidity, the city will soon see premonsoon showers, with the full monsoon expected in early June. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided a timeline for its arrival across the country.

On Monday, Mumbai recorded a high of 35.1°C and a low of 27.4°C. The IMD predicts similar conditions this week, with temperatures staying around 34-35°C alongside high humidity. Some relief is on the way, as premonsoon showers are forecast later in the week.

The monsoon is set to arrive in Kerala around May 26. From there, it typically takes seven days to reach Maharashtra. This year, Mumbai can expect the monsoon around June 5, with the official arrival date marked as June 11. Last year, the monsoon reached Mumbai on May 26—the earliest ever recorded. Normally, the journey from Kerala to Mumbai takes about 10 days, though variations can occur depending on weather patterns.

The upcoming monsoon will bring cooler temperatures and much-needed rain to Mumbai. After a week of hot and humid conditions, residents can look forward to the seasonal change. The IMD’s forecast suggests a gradual progression, with the full monsoon establishing itself by mid-June.
