In a twist of fortunes, Mumbai Indians (MI) have roped in Kerala leg-spinner, Raghu Sharma, to fill the void left by the injured Vignesh Puthur. Born on March 11, 1993, in Jalandhar, Punjab, Sharma has caught the limelight in Indian domestic cricket for his spinning prowess.

Puthur, who made a splash in the IPL debuting for MI against Chennai Super Kings, sustained bone stress reactions in both shins, ruling him out of IPL 2025. To mitigate the loss, MI decided to bring in the 32-year-old Sharma as his replacement.

Get to Know Raghu Sharma, MI's New Face

Sharma debuted in first-class cricket back in the 2017/18 season, where he showcased his impressive skills with 4-50 and 3-117 against Goa. However, he failed to establish a permanent spot in the Punjab team, playing only a handful of matches across formats.

Sharma's brief T20 career saw him appear in three games, registering three wickets at 29.33 apiece with an economy of 8.00. He later moved to Sri Lanka where he excelled in the Major League Tournament in 2022/23, picking up a staggering 46 wickets at 15.71. This included a phenomenal 10-wicket haul in three consecutive games.

In the 2023/24 season, Sharma played for Puducherry in the Ranji Trophy, his last first-class matches to date. He then returned to Punjab for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking 14 wickets at 23.71 while maintaining a remarkable economy of 5.13 per over.

Now, Sharma joins MI to supplement their spin attack, offering valuable experience during the tournament's crucial stages.
