An Exuberant Celebration Gone Awry
HSV triumphantly secured their spot back in the Bundesliga after a seven-year hiatus with a thrilling 6:1 win against SSV Ulm. As the final whistle blew, fans surged onto the pitch, dismantling advertising boards before the game even ended.
Eyewitnesses recounted the chaos that followed, with fans storming the pitch and destroying the promotion goal. They reportedly sliced the net and dismantled the frame into fragments, and parts of the pitch were removed as well. Such behavior is common at celebratory events like these.
Emergency services had a hectic weekend on their hands, with numerous large-scale events taking place. Besides the HSV promotion, the 836th Hamburg Port Anniversary and Schlager star Roland Kaiser's performance at the Barclays Arena near the stadium were also sources of festivities.
