Multitude of Unpaid Helpers Offer Support in Community Initiative
In the heart of Germany, Düsseldorf's Consul General of Ukraine, Iryna Shum, has shed light on the pressing challenges faced by Chernivtsi – a city witnessing a massive population boom. Shum, at a recent aid presentation, praised Düsseldorf for its unwavering support since the onset of the Russian conflict, expressing gratitude for the city's practical aid in these testing times.
Dr. Stephan Keller, Chernivtsi's esteemed Mayor, emphasizes the continual need for aid relief for the city, calling upon Düsseldorf residents to lend a helping hand in enhancing Ukraine's situation and bolstering the bond between Chernivtsi and their city.
This noble endeavor is being expertly orchestrated by the Office for International and European Affairs of the city and Caritas – two partners each contributing 50,000 euros from donations. In addition, manufacturers of durable food products have generously donated goods or sold them at cost price. Further donations will cover packaging and transport expenses.
The relief packages will consist of essential supplies – such as pasta, flour, canned goods, long-life milk, jam, and oats – to be distributed at exhibition hall 8 on June 15. Over 40 volunteers will pack these items in groups, working tirelessly in 28 shifts, each lasting three hours, at a 20-meter-long "packing line." The packing marathon is set to end on June 20 at 7 am.
The long-standing connection between Düsseldorf and Chernivtsi dates back years, predating the unanimous council resolution for a twinning partnership in March. A notable example of this relationship is the school partnership between the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium and Gymnasium No. 1 in Chernivtsi. Further, the Jewish Community of Düsseldorf boasts numerous members hailing from Chernivtsi.
