Multiple travel setbacks predicted due to around 15 centimeters of fresh snowfall on Wednesday.

Berlin, 17th January – The city of Berlin and several other German regions are bracing for a bout of wintry conditions, as snowfall is expected to hit the area this afternoon.

The snowfall is a continuation of the wintry conditions that have been ongoing for the last few days, and it's causing widespread travel disruptions, affecting both air and train travel.

Air traffic from Saarbrucken has been completely suspended, and the snowfall is affecting air travel in multiple cities, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, and Saarbrucken. Some domestic flights from BER airport in Berlin have been cancelled, but the directly affected airlines have not been explicitly named.

Train travel disruptions are occurring in multiple regions, not just Berlin. The maximum speed on ICE trains has been limited to 200 km/h, and a spokesperson warned of possible delays and cancellations in train travel.

Between 5-10cm of new snow is likely to fall in Berlin, but some regions could see as much as 15cm. The snowfall is also expected to affect surrounding regions, especially in the centre and south of the country.

Flights from Frankfurt and Munich are also disrupted, and train travel is likely to be restricted due to the snowy conditions. As much as 15cm of new snow is expected in some regions, making travel even more challenging.

The snowfall is expected to start around 17:00 on Wednesday afternoon, so travellers are advised to check their flight and train status before setting out. Stay safe and warm during these wintry conditions!
