Ready for a Theatrical Extravaganza and Political Jabs at Frankfurt's Schauspiel Theater!

Multiple stage premieres and a predominant political atmosphere at Schauspiel Frankfurt - Multiple theater premieres intertwined with political discourse at Frankfurt's Schauspiel House

Let's set the scene straight - Ten out of eighteen premieres at Frankfurt's Schauspiel Theatre for the upcoming season are ain't-no-joke, fresh-off-the-press shows. Intendant Anselm Weber, in all his glory, announced this juicy detail at the unveiling of the 2025/26 season lineup. If that isn't enough to get things moving, he also shared some more good news: the spoken theatre stage is buzzing with an impressive 95% occupancy rate!

Get ready for the curtain to rise in September with the opening act: a "musical" drama titled "Sanatorium zur Gänsehaut". It's the story of young dreamers, body image worship, and the deep, dark cult of vanity - penned by Ferdinand Schmalz, who's best known for his blockbuster, "Mein Lieblingstier heißt Winter".

Brace yourselves for some heart-stopping drama, as one play will tackle the brutal reality of dementia, while another will be based on the incredible story of the woman who left her mark on Goethe's "Faust".

"The world needs the sting of politics!"

As you can imagine, with all that's going on in the world, it's only natural for our theatermakers to deliver some good ol' fashioned political content. You'll see stage adaptations of literary classics like Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray", Thomas Mann's "Buddenbrooks", and Mikhail Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita".

Intendant Weber isn't shy about his beliefs: "Der politischen Zeiten bedarf es politischen Stoffes!" (Political times demand political content). That's why you'll see plays like Bertolt Brecht's "Der aufhaltsame Aufstieg des Arturo Ui", which is a biting satire of how society allows dictators like Hitler to rise and ruin the world. Sounds like a real blockbuster, huh?

Another gem is Sophocles' "Antigone". Although it hails from ancient Greece, it still delivers a powerful message about resistance against oppressive regimes and individual moral duty versus state law. Catchy themes, if you ask us.
