Tragic Weekend Traffic Mishaps Pervade Bavaria
- Multiple severe accidents occurred on Bavarian highways
Hey there! Let's get down to it. Bavaria's spring charm was marred by a spate of severe accidents over the weekend, some ending in fatalities. Police reported four deaths since Friday evening, with several serious injuries too.
On Sunday morning, a 35-year-old man met his demise near Oberdachstetten in the district of Ansbach. His car veered off the road and somersaulted multiple times. It's a tale as old as time – a heartbreaking reminder of the perils of the road.
Another tragedy struck on Saturday night. A 44-year-old pedestrian was killed while crossing the federal highway B16 between Donauwörth and Tapfheim (district of Donau-Ries). He was hit by a 27-year-old driver.
The district of Traunstein wasn’t immune either. A 43-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Friday when an 83-year-old driver failed to spot him while turning. Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl collided with a tree in Zachenberg (district of Regen) after a light motorcycle mishap on the same day.
Two men suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision on the federal highway B12 on Friday. When a 44-year-old man’s car veered into oncoming traffic near Wildpoldsried (district of Oberallgäu), it left the 35-year-old driver and 62-year-old passenger of the other car seriously injured. The 44-year-old and his 59-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries.
A high-speed chase on Saturday led to a 32-year-old man being hospitalized on the A92 near Eitting (district of Erding). His car was suddenly rammed by another vehicle and crashed into the guardrail. The other driver reportedly fled the scene.
Not one to fall behind, the weekend also saw two hit-and-run incidents involving children with minor injuries. In Munich, a 9-year-old boy was hit by a car on his way to school on Friday morning. In Beilngries (district of Eichstätt), an 8-year-old boy was hit by a cyclist on a supermarket parking lot on Saturday evening and fled when the police were called.
A 23-year-old man narrowly escaped with minor injuries after his car ended up on the tracks of a railway line near Bischofswiesen (district of Berchtesgadener Land) due to a driving error on Saturday.
The driver and passenger of a tomato and cucumber-laden truck, both 54 and 46 years old respectively, were also injured in a minor accident when their truck overturned on the A3 between Biebelried and Kitzingen in the early hours of Saturday morning. The road was closed in the direction of Nuremberg for 13 hours as a result.
The district of Kulmbach saw a collision involving a police car. Two occupants of a car were injured when it collided with a police car. The officers had tried to make a sudden U-turn on a federal highway in Kulmbach after spotting a speeding car in the opposite lane.
In Fürstenfeldbruck, an 18-year-old driver engaged in a high-speed chase with police on Friday evening before deliberately ramming a police car. He was eventually apprehended by the officers.
