In the ongoing conflict, at least 35 Palestinians have lost their lives near aid centers run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), as per local health authorities. The majority of these casualties occurred at a food distribution center in the heart of Gaza Strip. Around 25 perished and many more were injured, as they approached the center, according to medical clinic staff reports. Furthermore, ten more deaths were reported in Israeli attacks in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli military remains tight-lipped on these matters.
Repeated Unrest near GHF Centers
More regrettable incidents have taken place near GHF aid centers. On Tuesday, 17 people shed their lives near another GHF aid station in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, according to authorities controlled by Hamas terror militia. The Israeli army alleges it fired warning shots to keep "suspicious" individuals at bay, who had approached troops potentially posing a threat.
The Establishment of GHF: Controversial and Deadly
Following a nearly three-month Israeli blockade on aid deliveries, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) started operations last month. The primary goal was to act as an alternative to UN and international aid organizations. Israel and the US aim to prevent the Hamas from misappropriating humanitarian aid via GHF.
Limited Aid Hubs for 2.1 Million Residents
The foundation has set up four distribution centers in southern and central Gaza Strip to cater to approximately 1.2 million of the nearly 2.1 million residents in the strip. GHF collaborates with the Israeli military to establish specific routes for Palestinians to access food. However, many residents face lengthy journeys through the war-torn territory to receive provisions. The Israeli military advises not to deviate from designated roads on Facebook.
The complexity arises as it remains unclear how many people are aware of these detailed instructions. Moreover, gaining access to one of the nodes, SDS-01, often places individuals near Israeli Defense Force (IDF) positions.
According to the foundation, GHF has distributed around 12 million meals thus far in the coastal region. As per Israeli figures, 350 aid shipments entered the Gaza Strip last week. However, according to UN statistics, at least 500 to 600 truckloads are required daily.

Insights:
- Coordination between the Israeli Military and GHF for Food Distribution: The Israeli military coordinates with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) by providing security for its aid distribution sites. The GHF relies on U.S. private security contractors and Israeli military forces to secure its distribution points, which are limited to four hubs in Gaza, primarily in the south near Rafah and the Egyptian border. This setup contrasts with the extensive network of delivery sites supported by UN and international humanitarian organizations, which have been criticized by Israel for potentially allowing aid diversion by Hamas.
- Potential Risks for Palestinians Accessing Aid Sites: There are several potential risks for Palestinians accessing aid sites, including security risks, restrictions and accessibility issues, limited access, political and military control, and a lack of vetting and screening. These factors have led to criticism from aid and human rights organizations, who view the GHF as a politicized and potentially dangerous initiative.
- The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has led to a significant issue in the establishment and operation of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), as its monetary union and economic and monetary union with Israel and the US are facing criticism for potential political motives aimed at preventing Hamas from misappropriating humanitarian aid.
- In the general news, war-and-conflicts continue to claim lives, as at least 35 Palestinians have died near aid centers run by the GHF, with many more injured, raising concerns about safety and the need for clear community policies to ensure the well-being of those requiring humanitarian assistance.
- Crimes and justice may also be a concern, as some argue that the lack of vetting and screening of individuals accessing aid centers could potentially lead to conflicts or accidents, further endangering the people in need of assistance in the region.
