However, the celebrations took a turn for the worse as numerous incidents occurred.
Echoing these sentiments, Paris police chief Laurent Nunez shared on RTL radio, "We're disappointed about the latest incidents that occurred during the parade on the Champs-Élysées, attended by more than 100,000 people, and at the subsequent trophy presentation at the Parc des Princes." For the record, those apprehended weren't genuine PSG supporters.
On the outskirts of the stadium, a group of miscreants hurled barriers onto the city's peripheral road during the wee hours of Monday, causing a traffic snarl-up for about 15 minutes, despite the quick response from the authorities. Moreover, there were reports of groups along the Champs-Élysées launching fireworks and attempting to damage shops, according to the police chief.
A Nationwide Crackdown: Post-Game Unrest
In the wake of the celebratory unrest that unfolded from Saturday night to Sunday morning across the nation, 563 arrests were made nationwide, with 491 occurring in Paris itself. Out of this total, 323 individuals were detained. It's worth noting that most of those arrested on these charges are expected to remain in custody, particularly those involved in looting stores, said Nunez.
The thrilling 5-0 victory against Inter Milan on Saturday evening in Munich secured PSG's first-ever Champions League title.
The Celebrations Continue: Peaceful Tennis and Rosy Reception at the French Open
Meanwhile, the celebrations for PSG are far from over. On Monday, they graced the French Open with a peaceful presence, leaving no property or personal damage behind. The players paraded the trophy onto the Philippe Chatrier court ahead of the quarter-final match between Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie. Jubilant PSG boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi could be seen enthusiastically clapping alongside French tennis veteran Yannick Noah, while over 10,000 spectators extended a warm welcome to the guests.
