Another Round of Disruptions During PSG's Champs-Élysées Parade

Multiple occurrences at PSG Parade

A joyous celebration for Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League triumph turned sour as disturbances arose on the sidelines of the festivities.

In a disappointing turn of events, renewed chaos erupted during the PSG parade along the Champs-Élysées and the subsequent trophy presentation at the Parc des Princes, leading to 79 arrests. Paris police chief Laurent Nunez shared his dismay with RTL, stating, "we regret the new incidents following the parade, which gathered more than 100,000 people on the Champs-Élysées, and the subsequent trophy presentation at the Parc des Princes." However, it's important to note that the arrested individuals weren't genuine PSG fans.

Close to the stadium, mischief-makers managed to hurl barriers onto the city highway in the wee hours of Monday, causing a temporary blockage to traffic for around 15 minutes despite prompt police intervention. What's more, groups on the Champs-Élysées launched fireworks and attempted to vandalize stores, according to the police chief.

Nationwide Troubles Following PSG's Historic Win

In the past, celebrations following a significant sporting victory have sometimes led to incidents. Last night, there were 563 arrests nationwide, with approximately 491 occurring in Paris. Of those arrested, a considerable number, as commented by Nunez, would remain in police custody, particularly those involved in looting stores.

On June 1, 2025, PSG cemented its position as the European premier league champion with a stunning 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in Munich. The post-game festivities continued without hiccups on day two, with the tennis crowd in Paris enjoying a peaceful spectacle as the team brought the trophy to the French Open. Ousmane Dembélé led the procession, carrying the trophy onto Court Philippe Chatrier before a quarterfinal match between Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie. The team's manager, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, joined Yannick Noah on the stands, clapping along with the thousands of cheering spectators.
