Berlin Tiergarten Murder: Suspect Identified as Russian National

The Berlin Tiergarten area, known for its tranquil beauty, has become the site of a shocking crime, as reported by dts Nachrichtenagentur. The victim was Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a Chechen exile and critic of the Kremlin, who was assassinated on August 23, 2019.

Investigations into the case have led to the identification of a potential suspect, Vladimir Krasnov, a Russian national. Krasnov is believed to have played a key role as an accomplice in the assassination.

According to the Berlin authorities, Krasnov may have had a facilitative or support role in the crime, which has led to political tensions, including the expulsion of Russian diplomats by Germany.

The Federal Criminal Police Office and the Federal Prosecutor's Office have linked Krasnov to the operation, suspecting that he may have provided suspicious data for a visa that allowed him to enter the EU a few weeks before the attack.

Intriguingly, the data provided by Krasnov have striking similarities to those used by Vadim K., the alleged Tiergarten murderer, for his false identity.

German investigators suspect that the company claimed by both Vadim K. and Krasnov as their employer was a front for the Russian intelligence apparatus.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office considers Krasnov's case relevant to its investigation of Vadim K.'s alleged activities. However, it is not yet clear how Krasnov may have concretely assisted the alleged murderer.

Interestingly, Krasnov is also suspected of applying for a Schengen visa under a different name five years ago, and the data used for this application also appear to have striking similarities to the visa applications of two Russians who were said to have surveilled a Chechen in Istanbul in 2015 before he was murdered.

Vadim K. is accused of having shot Khangoshvili on behalf of the Russian state. The indictment against Vadim K. describes Krasnov's role in the case in significant detail.

As of now, Krasnov remains a fugitive, and the investigation into the Berlin Tiergarten murder continues. This case underscores the complexities of international politics and the potential for violence that can erupt even in the heart of a peaceful city.
