The Middle Thuringia Football Association (DFA) is preparing for the 2025/26 season with a total of 479 teams, a slight increase from the previous year. This makes it the strongest district football association in Thuringia in terms of membership, boasting 99 clubs registered for match operations.

Among these clubs, SV 09 Arnstadt stands out as the number one club in the Ilm district, with a total of twelve teams in operation. SV 09 will play at the state level in all age groups from A to D juniors, and additionally in the circle for C to F juniors. Notably, SV 09 will be starting independently, similar to Wachsenburg Haarhausen, which is playing with a third men's team for the first time.

The women's and girls' area of the Middle Thuringia DFA is represented by 38 teams. Two new clubs, Eintracht Eisenberg and Lauscha/Steinach, will start as guests in the Kreisoberliga, keeping the number of women's teams stable at eleven. SV Deube Großliebringen is a pure women's football club represented in all classes from B to E juniors on a state level.

In the junior area, there are 335 teams in operation, eight fewer than in 2024. Four clubs can afford to send three men's teams into the season: VfB Apolda, Einheit Rudolstadt, Empor Weimar, FC Saalfeld (with Remschütz), and Wachsenburg Haarhausen. SV Herschdorf, Germania Ilmenau, and SV Deube Großliebringen will start in the Kreisoberliga.

Interestingly, nine of the 99 clubs do not have their own men's team, and twelve clubs are starting with their men only in joint teams. Four clubs are purely women's football clubs in the Middle Thuringia DFA.

The decline due to Corona has stabilized in the number of junior teams in the Middle Thuringia DFA. There are 27 girls' teams and a total of 296 A to E juniors in the association. The FSV Martinroda provides eight teams, with the B juniors playing together with Geratal and Graefenroda.
