In Bandar Abbas, southern Iran, a fatal explosion at the Shahid Raza port resulted in the death of five individuals and a substantial number of patients being admitted to hospitals, according to reports from the IRNA agency.

In the latest scoop, an Iranian Red Crescent official, as quoted by IRNA, reveals that a whopping 516 individuals have been rushed to hospitals following an explosion. Tasnim, citing the chief of Hormozgan province's emergency services, Mehdi Hasanizadeh, reportedly says over 700 people have been injured. He cautions the casualty count could rise even further.

As of now, no news has surfaced regarding any Russian citizens among the injured. The Russian embassy in Iran, apparently, has declared that all diplomatic missions are safe and functioning as per usual.

The blast took place around 12:30 local time (11:30 Moscow time) at a maritime port inBandar Abbas, southern Iran. According to Mehr, a fuel tanker seemed to be the target of the explosion, with the root cause still unconfirmed. Operations at the port have since been suspended, with emergency services rushing to the scene. Mehr adds that the explosion occurred in an office building. The blaze, according to Iran's interior minister, remains unquenched. Footage shared by Mehr depicts dark smoke billowing dramatically from the site of the fire.
