Munich Prime for Champions League Final, Anticipating Influx of Football Fans from France and Italy

Tens of thousands of supporters from France and Italy are expected to descend upon Munich this weekend for the Champions League final. According to a city sports department representative, an Italian majority is forecasted primarily due to the convenient train travel between Milan and Munich. The Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) estimates around 90,000 overnight stays from out-of-town guests.

Twelve years ago, Munich experienced a collective sorrow following FC Bayern Munich's loss in a home final against FC Chelsea from London.

This Saturday, at 9:00 PM CEST, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain will contend at the Allianz Arena in Fröttmaning. The city will host three large fan zones for the game. The Olympic Park can accommodate up to 25,000 people at the "Champions Festival," while up to 18,000 people can celebrate or mourn at the "PSG Fan Meeting Point" on Königsplatz. The "Inter Fanzone" at Odeonsplatz can host up to 16,500 people. These areas will open at 11:00 AM.

Approximately 2,000 police officers will be on duty to secure the match and associated events. Munich Police Headquarters will receive assistance from officers across Bavaria. Although no concrete threats have been reported, authorities acknowledge the elevated abstract threat given the international character of the event, including the ongoing Ukraine war and Middle East conflict.

Guests are expected to inject around 46.2 million euros into Munich's economy, primarily through tourism-related spending. This week, a legends tournament featuring former stars including Franck Ribéry, Lothar Matthäus, and Luis Figo will take place at the SAP Garden in the Olympic Park.

According to Munich's Dehoga district manager Daniela Ziegler, interest in the event is exceptionally high, and willingness to pay is very strong this year. The majority of guests plan to stay one or two nights, with some inns already fully booked. The price sensitivity is reportedly extremely low, owing to the scarcity of tickets and sky-high prices.

Additional Information:- The Allianz Arena, with a capacity of 70,000 seats for major international finals, will host this year's Champions League final.- Each finalist, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan, has been allocated 18,000 tickets, totaling 36,000 for supporters of the clubs.- With the stadium set at 70,000 for the final, the event is expected to be at or near full capacity.

In light of the anticipated influx of football fans from France and Italy for the Champions League final, the city of Munich is gearing up to provide ample community aid, such as organizing large fan zones and ensuring sufficient financial aid for accommodating the estimated 90,000 overnight stays from out-of-town guests. The sports event, featuring Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena, is expected to inject approximately 46.2 million euros into Munich's economy, primarily through tourism-related spending.
