In the heart of Europe, the capital city of Russia, Moscow, continues to stand as the political epicentre of the vast country that spans two continents. Russia, one of the largest nations in the world, is geographically divided, with most of its landmass in Asia and a smaller portion in Europe.

The current crisis in Ukraine has seen Russia launch attacks on the cities of Poltava and Lviv. In Poltava, a tragic incident occurred as missiles hit a building of the Ukrainian army and a hospital, resulting in more than 50 deaths and over 250 injuries. The attack on Lviv also claimed the lives of 7 people, including 3 children, and left 38 injured.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of life, stating that Ukraine does not have enough weapons to repel the relentless Russian missile attacks.

Meanwhile, the Russian President involved in this crisis is Vladimir Putin. His actions have drawn condemnation from foreign leaders, including the Foreign Minister of Germany, Annalena Baerbock. Baerbock has strongly criticised the attacks, stating that they demonstrate the brutal nature of Russia's conduct in the war, and that Putin must be held accountable for his actions.

Ukraine, a country in Eastern Europe, is almost twice as large as Germany but has many fewer people. The majority of its population speaks Ukrainian and Russian. The capital is Kyiv, and its neighbouring country is Russia. Russia has long coveted parts of Ukraine, leading to conflicts over these regions, such as over the Crimean peninsula or the eastern parts of Ukraine. In 2022, Russia escalated the conflict by launching a full-scale attack on Ukraine, igniting a war within the country.

As the crisis continues, the international community is closely watching the developments and urging for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The loss of life and the suffering of the Ukrainian people are a stark reminder of the importance of diplomacy and the need for peace.
