Müller's Welcome in Vancouver: Chief Leads Exuberant Fan-Faring Ceremony

Thomas Müller, the renowned German soccer player, made his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut for Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday, August 18, 2025, in a match against Houston Dynamo FC. The game, which took place at BC Place in Vancouver, BC, ended in a 1-1 draw, with over 27,000 fans in attendance.

Müller, who joined the Whitecaps for the remainder of the 2025 season with a Designated Player option for 2026, came off the bench in the 61st minute. The match was a sold-out event, creating a lively atmosphere at BC Place.

Despite an opportunity in the 65th minute, Müller's goal was disallowed due to an offside call in the build-up. Nevertheless, Müller's presence on the field was a significant boost for the Whitecaps.

The Whitecaps' next match is scheduled for August 23, when they host St. Louis CITY SC at BC Place, with kick-off at 6:30 p.m. PT.

Prior to his MLS debut, Müller had been watching the Canadian Championship semi-final between Vancouver Whitecaps and Forge FC, which ended in a 2:2 draw. The winner of the Canadian Championship competition will be crowned as the Canadian champion.

Upon his arrival at Vancouver International Airport, Müller was greeted by representatives of the Musqueam tribe with a traditional drum march and a speech by Chief Wayne Sparrow. He then celebrated with fans of his new club before heading to a sports bar on level 3 of the airport.

Müller's first press conference with Vancouver Whitecaps will be held on Thursday at 6:00 PM CEST. Fans can watch Whitecaps games on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.

Müller's contract with FC Bayern Munich was not extended, leading to his move to Vancouver. He expressed his happiness about joining the Whitecaps and his intention to shape the future with the club.

The debut game marked the beginning of a new chapter in Müller's career, and fans are eagerly awaiting his future performances for the Whitecaps.
