Thomas Müller Joins Vancouver Whitecaps, Aims for Championship Glory

Former Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller has signed a contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps, joining the MLS team for the remainder of the 2025 season with a Designated Player option for 2026. The 35-year-old forward will earn approximately $600,000 for the rest of 2025, a relatively low initial salary compared to his previous earnings in Germany.

The Vancouver Whitecaps acquired Müller's MLS Discovery Rights from FC Cincinnati for up to $400,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). Müller is expected to become a Designated Player in 2026 but not for the remainder of 2025.

Müller is eager to make his debut with the Whitecaps, with the team anticipating him starting in matches from mid-August 2025. This timing coincides with the remaining nine games of their season plus potential playoff and Canadian Championship fixtures. Müller expressed his excitement to play in front of Vancouver's supporters and contribute to the team's aim for a championship.

During a media event in Vancouver, Müller was warmly welcomed with a traditional Bavarian dish, Leberkäse. He mentioned that he appreciates being able to enjoy Bavarian specialties in Vancouver, a city he looks forward to calling home.

Müller, known for his open personality, is looking forward to making friends quickly and getting on the field as soon as possible. Despite his age, his body feels fit, and he is motivated to play his heart out for the Whitecaps. The World Cup winner in 2014 has not focused on past titles but is aiming to win more trophies with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Whitecaps, managed by German sporting director Axel Schuster, are planning for Müller's debut on Sunday against Houston Dynamo FC. Müller is expected to train with the team for the first time on Friday, ready to integrate rapidly with the squad ahead of competitive matches.
