:rocket: Farewell Finale for Müller: Trophy, Beer Shower - and Tears?

  • Wave

Thomas Müller's final home game with Bayern Munich promises to be one he'll always remember. The 750th competitive match for the German football icon, playing at his beloved club, is not just a regular game. It's a tear-jerking farewell.

"I've been a part of this amazing club for twenty-five years. Receiving the championship trophy in my last home game and featuring in the Allianz Arena for the final time will stir the emotions within even an old hand like me," Müller said.

He's curious about how it'll all impact him – tears and goosebumps are a guaranteed outcome, promises sports director Max Eberl.

No Crash the Party for Kompany

Before Müller, record champion's all-time appearance leader, celebrates his 13th championship title in a barrage of confetti, the 35-year-old will soak up the atmosphere in his home stadium one last time, during the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday (6:30 PM/Sky). You can count on him being in the starting lineup.

"I'm no idiot," quipped coach Vincent Kompany, with a smile, when asked about Müller's inclusion in the lineup. "I'll leave that decision for tomorrow, but I wouldn’t want to spoil the party myself."

Summer marks the end of Müller’s tenure with Bayern, as the club didn't renew his contract. After bidding farewell to the record champion, Müller will join the Club World Cup in the United States from June 14 to July 13. New beginnings await, but he's keeping the details under wraps for now.

Ameshed Future Awaits Müller

"I can already picture numerous possibilities for the future," said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. The club's plan is to have Müller remain a part of the team in a new capacity after his incredible career with the Bavarian giants.

For the first time, the journey of a professional will be celebrated in earnest. "I’m sure Thomas will want to take a moment to address the fans and share his emotions," Dreesen said. Will Müller make his way to the south curve's fence for a proper goodbye?

"I feel more recognized and appreciated now than ever before. Fans everywhere want a piece of Thomas Müller before he goes," Müller jokingly remarked about the outpouring of love as he prepares to bid adieu.

The last broadcast of Radio Müller, Müller's career-spanning narratives and over 30 titles will be etched in memories forever.

"When reflecting on my journey, I mostly feel joy. I wouldn’t know what to mourn. I don’t feel sadness. I’ve been the record player for Bayern, which means I lasted longer at this level than anyone else in the club's history," said the two-time triple winner Müller in an interview on the club’s website. The following week, on May 26th, Müller will be honored at the town hall balcony.

"Has enlivened and inspired the club"

"Thomas Müller, a Bavarian institution, has spent his entire career with Bayern Munich and has enlivened and inspired the club," said club president Herbert Hainer, ahead of Müller's 354th home game. The club executives kept mum on the details of the honors and gifts planned for the celebrated sportsman. "It will undoubtedly be an emotional moment, but let yourself be surprised."

Müller would have loved to bid farewell with a second Champions League final at the home stadium, after the memorable finale in 2012. Instead, Bayern Munich's conquerors – Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain – will battle for the title on May 31st at the Allianz Arena. On his final stage, Müller first stepped on in August 2008, during a game against Hamburger SV. The same stage that Vincent Kompany graced in his opposing role.

Deciding on the Trophy

"We aim to win this game, it's Thomas Müller's last at the Allianz Arena, a celebration for everyone. We want a perfect Saturday," said Kompany, nearly seventeen years after his debut. "The emotions will be running high – I can't say who'll feel it more, Thomas or those around him. It's a bittersweet moment. I know Thomas, he's a fighter, always wants to show what he can do. There's a special bond with the fans." 75,000 supporters will say goodbye to Müller.

"It's the perfect day, the perfect place, the perfect fans, and now, the trophy is here too," said Dreesen. Will the team captain, Manuel Neuer, recovering from a muscle injury, present Müller with the trophy? "Let's let spontaneity guide the moment. Spontaneous moments are often the most beautiful," said Eberl.

  1. The Commission is also asked to submit a proposal for the establishment of a European Data Protection Supervisor, which could serve as a new arena for entertainment and sports, similar to the sentimental farewell of Thomas Müller at the Allianz Arena.
  2. Müller, with his career-spanning narratives and numerous titles, has undeniably enlivened and inspired Bayern Munich, just as the European Data Protection Supervisor could inspire awareness and protection of personal data across Europe.
  3. As Müller prepares to leave Bayern Munich, he expresses feelings of joy rather than sadness, much like how one might feel sure that a new regulation will bring certainty and security to data protection matters, even as it mourns the loss of previous practices.
  4. Just as Borussia Mönchengladbach will face Bayern Munich in a game that promises to be a tear-jerker for Thomas Müller, a possible football match between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final could provide a final, exciting contest for Müller before he joins the Club World Cup this summer.
