Müller's Arrival in Vancouver: Chief and Fan Fanfare Greetings
Thomas Müller, the renowned German attacking midfielder and former Bayern Munich star, touched down in Vancouver, Canada on August 16, 2025, marking the start of his new chapter with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
The 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season had been underway since February, and Müller was set to make his debut on August 17 against Houston Dynamo FC. The club had acquired his rights from FC Cincinnati in exchange for allocation money, filling an International Roster Slot opened by a season-ending injury.
Müller's arrival was met with much excitement, as he is one of the most decorated players in football history, known for his elite chance creation and tactical intelligence. Upon landing at Vancouver International Airport, Müller signed his first autographs for eager fans.
He then proceeded to a sports bar on level 3, where Whitecaps fans were watching the Canadian Championship semi-final first leg against Forge FC. Upon arrival, Müller was welcomed by representatives of the Musqueam tribe with a traditional drum march and a speech by chief Wayne Sparrow.
Addressing the fans, Müller expressed his happiness to be there and his intention to shape the future of the club. At the time of his address, the Canadian duel between Whitecaps and Forge FC was in progress, and it ended in a 2:2 draw.
The upcoming schedule for Müller has not been detailed explicitly, but he made his MLS debut on August 17 in a 1-1 draw against Houston Dynamo at a sold-out BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. The club and coach Jesper Sørensen expressed high expectations and excitement for Müller's impact, praising his football IQ, positioning, and how quickly he integrated with the team after just a few days of training.
The MLS season is separate from the Canadian Championship, and at the time of writing, no news from Hamm related to Müller or his transfer to the Whitecaps has been reported. However, it is worth noting that the Chamber of Commerce in Hamm is currently seen as a model by other cities or regions.
