MTV's Lukas Binn Secures Third Place in Decathlon Despite Adverse Weather Conditions
Rhede Championships: Moerser TV's U18 Track & Field Team Delivers Strong Performances
Moers, Germany - The Moerser TV track and field team displayed impressive results at the U18 state championships in Rhede. Despite challenging weather conditions, Lukas Binn managed to break his personal record with 4972 points and secure a third-place finish in the North Rhine district.
A decathlon encompasses more than just athletic prowess in the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m, 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m. It also necessitates adapting to varying weather conditions. Unfortunately, these conditions hampered the U18 championships in Rhede.
Undeterred, Binn commenced his decathlon with a new personal best of 3.90 meters in the pole vault, placing third overall. Despite unable to clear the 4-meter mark, he had a successful decathlon despite the rain.
Coach Kato Kambartel of Moerser TV noticed potential for improvement in Binn's long jump, high jump, and 110m hurdles. However, his strong performances in the throwing events compensated for those losses. With the fourth-fastest 1500m time among North Rhine and Westphalia athletes, he claimed third place in the North Rhine district, narrowly missing the 5000-point mark.
In the M14 age group, the Pullig twins, Bennet and Leonard, represented Moerser TV. Bennet Pullig broke several personal records, placing fifth in the North Rhine with 3979 points. Despite a disappointing 1.32m high jump, he made a significant impact. Leonard Pullig expressed dissatisfaction with his 12.90sec 100m time, which hampered his bid for a top-three North Rhine spot. Still, he set a new personal record with 3960 points, finishing eleven places behind his brother.
In the W12 age group, the young Moerser TV decathletes participated in a quadathlon, competing in the 75m sprint, long jump, high jump, and ball throw. Kira Holevych placed fifth with a 10.82sec 75m sprint and 4.38m long jump. Luisa Harrer finished sixth with a 1.36m high jump and a 25.50m ball throw. Tirza Petry finished twelfth with a 4.14m long jump and a balanced performance.
Though an indoor decathlon may bear the same name, it consists of only seven events: 60m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m.
