MSV Duisburg Wins Friendly Match Against SV Wanheim 1900 with a Landslide Victory

In a friendly match held at Honnenpfad last week, MSV Duisburg triumphed over local team SV Wanheim 1900 with a resounding score of 19:0 (7:0). The match, played under the summer sun and without the need for artificial light, was attended by around 700 spectators.

MSV coach Dietmar Hirsch sent a team consisting mainly of less-played players. Among them was Mert Göckan, who was returning from a muscle injury, and Moritz Montag and Jonas Michelbrink, who had not been considered recently. The Wanheim team, prepared by their chairman Rolf Müller, put up a valiant effort but struggled to keep up with the visiting team.

The goals for MSV Duisburg were scored by Borkowski (8., 27., 43., 43.), Zahmel (13., 51., 58.), Dittgen (30., 41., 53., 63., 81., 83., 85.), Michelbrink (73.), Töpken (76., 83.), and Noß (54., 81.).

The victory was bittersweet for MSV Duisburg, as player Jakob Bookjans sustained a brutal foul by Christian Kühlwetter during the match. Bookjans now requires surgery on his left lower leg and will be out for several months. Kühlwetter, captain of SSV Jahn Regensburg, received a ban for four games due to the red card he received during the match.

After the game, the Wanheim team showed their hospitality by serving spaghetti Bolognese and an Asian rice dish with chicken to their guests. MSV Duisburg thanked their hosts with a signed jersey.

Before the match, MSV Duisburg received a commemorative plaque. The starting lineup for MSV Duisburg in the friendly match was: Paris - Göckan, Schlicke, Sdalek, Jessen (61. Montag) - Egerer, Tugbenyo (61. Michelbrink) - Dittgen, Noß, Borkowski (61. Töpken) - Zahmel.

With this friendly match behind them, MSV Duisburg now looks forward to the first round match of the Niederrhein Cup, which will take place at the Grenzland Stadium in Rheydt on Wednesday, August 20, at 7:30 PM. The team is eager to put their recent victory to good use in the more serious competition to come.
