In a significant development in Thai politics, Chaiya Promma, a six-time Member of Parliament (MP) from the Pheu Thai Party, has been elected as the first deputy Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives. The election took place on Thursday, replacing Pichet Chuamuangphan, who was ousted by the Constitutional Court.

Chaiya Promma, representing Nong Bua Lam Phu, assumed his new role in August 2025. His election came after Pichet Chuamuangphan was removed from his position due to a conflict of interest. The Constitutional Court found that Pichet had approved three projects of the House Secretariat under the 2026 fiscal year, which were ruled to have been used for political gain. As a result, Pichet was banned from elections and holding political office for ten years.

It is important to clarify that Chaiya Promma himself was not removed from the Constitutional Court or held any seat on the Constitutional Court. The removal was of another politician, Pichet Chuamuangphan. Chaiya was elected to replace Pichet after the latter was ousted by the Constitutional Court.

The election of Chaiya Promma was uncontested, with no other candidates contesting the post. Pheu Thai secretary-general Sorawong Thienthong nominated Chaiya for the position.

Chaiya Promma, a native of Nong Bua Lamphu, has served as an MP for six consecutive terms. His election as the first deputy Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives marks a significant milestone in his political career. The election underscores the Pheu Thai Party's continued influence in Thai politics.

Chaiya Promma's election as the first deputy Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives in August 2025 was a result of Pichet Chuamuangphan's removal due to a conflict of interest and subsequent ten-year ban from elections and holding political office. This development highlights the ongoing prominence of the Pheu Thai Party in Thailand's politics, with Chaiya Promma's role playing a key part in policy-and-legislation and general news discussions.
