HÀ NỘI - The FRELIMO Party, hailing from Mozambique alongside other African and global friendly parties, sends ripples of joy and inspiration to the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Vietnamese government, and citizens during these significant days.

This sentiment was shared by Party General Secretary Tô Lâm in a meeting with General Secretary of FRELIMO, Chakil Aboobabcar, on Monday. Aboobacar is on a visit to Vietnam, slated to last until May 1, where he will participate in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025).

The CPV leader expressed his conviction that the importance of this visit cannot be overstated, given its timing as both nations prepare to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations (June 25, 1975 - 2025).

Lâm extended his greetings and congratulations to Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and the Chair of the FRELIMO Party. He conveyed his appreciation for the peaceful atmosphere in Mozambique and praised the admiration that Mozambique holds for late President Hồ Chí Minh. He believed that under FRELIMO's stewardship, Mozambique will continue to make strides in achieving its objectives, establish a prosperous nation, and boost its impact in the region and worldwide.

Aboobacar asserted that Vietnam is one of Mozambique's priority partners in its foreign policy, stating that this visit carries significant weight—it is both his first overseas trip since becoming FRELIMO's Secretary-General in February 2025 and a testament to the high anticipation from the FRELIMO Party and Mozambican people for enhanced and expanded cooperation between the two parties, nations, and governments, as well as their people.

General Secretary Lâm pointed out that since the 1960s, the CPV and FRELIMO have constructed a strong tradition of solidarity, friendship, and cooperation. He voiced the CPV's commitment to fostering this bond further.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining their association as the cornerstone for guiding Vietnam-Mozambique relations. Political trust serves as the foundation upon which they aim to expand cooperation into sectors where both have mutual strengths and interests, such as oil and gas, liquefied natural gas, mineral extraction, food production, healthcare, and cultural exchanges.

They also underscored the importance of fostering cultural collaboration and boosting people-to-people exchanges.

Mozambique offered its warm welcome and readiness to assist Vietnamese businesses in capitalizing on opportunities in Mozambique.

General Secretary Lâm also expressed his willingness to collaborate on agriculture to secure Mozambique's food security.

Both leaders highly valued the Movitel telecommunications joint venture between Viettel and the SPI Company of the FRELIMO Party, which remains a high point in their investment relationship.

They agreed to bolster Movitel's expansion into digital transformation and the application of high technology in production and business, with the aim of improving the quality of life for Mozambicans.

The leaders further discussed specific measures to bolster cooperation through the party-to-party channel, including signing a cooperation agreement between the two parties for the 2025-2030 period, sharing experiences in governance, party building, and addressing socio-economic issues.

Addressing international issues, the leaders agreed to keep up their coordination and support for each other at multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement, ASEAN, and African Union.

Lâm urged FRELIMO and Mozambique to support Vietnam and ASEAN in efforts to peacefully resolve maritime disputes, emphasizing respect for international law, notably the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and ASEAN's attempts to turn the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea) into a sea of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development.
