Moving forward, pitcher Bryce Miller from the Mariners is poised to rejoin, indicating a strengthening state of health within the team's starting rotation.
The Seattle Mariners' battered starting rotation is inching closer to full strength as Bryce Miller is set to rejoin the roster on Saturday. The right-handed pitcher, who was placed on the injured list due to elbow inflammation, will face off against the Minnesota Twins in his return.
Manager Dan Wilson made the announcement on Thursday afternoon. Scans conducted a day after Miller's most recent outing - a blip in which he surrendered seven runs in five innings against the Toronto Blue Jays - revealed no structural damage. However, Miller does have a small bone spur at the back of his elbow. He underwent a cortisone injection to manage the inflammation.
"This ideally gets me to the end of the year, and then we can reassess and see if I need to clean it up or anything," Miller said last weekend. "But at the end of the day, it feels good."
George Kirby, who began the season on the injured list due to shoulder inflammation, made his season debut last week in Houston. Despite the comeback, he has yet to regain his form, posting a 0-2 record and an 11.42 ERA in his first two appearances.
Meanwhile, Logan Gilbert is working his way back from a right flexor strain in his pitching elbow. He is penciled in to make his first rehab start Thursday evening in Tacoma. If all goes well, Gilbert, who has been sidelined for a month, could be back with the Mariners soon.
There was some roster shuffling to accommodate Miller's return. Casey Lawrence was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma, replacing reliever Blas Castaño who made his MLB debut in the Mariners' 9-0 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Tacoma catcher Blake Hunt was designated for assignment to make room for Lawrence, keeping the Mariners' 40-man roster at capacity.
Injury Updates and Return Dates:- Bryce Miller - Returning from the injured list; starting on May 31, 2025. No structural damage found on imaging.- George Kirby - Back from the IL but struggling; ongoing updates to follow.- Logan Gilbert - Nearing return from rehab; potential return date is yet to be determined.
