In August 2025, Vietnam is set to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2) with a nationwide free movie screening campaign. Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Department of Cinema, the campaign will feature 14 Vietnamese films across various genres, including feature films, documentaries, and animations.

The opening ceremony will take place on August 12 at the Film Distribution and Screening Centre in Đắk Lắk Province. Among the notable films to be screened are revolutionary classics like Sao Tháng Tám, Cánh Đồng Hoang, Hà Nội Mùa Đông Năm 46, Ngã Ba Đồng Lộc, and Hà Nội 12 Days and Nights. Contemporary films such as 'Bà Già Đi Bụi' (Old Lady Goes Backpacking) and 'Flying on the Wings of Freedom' will also be part of the campaign.

The free movie screenings aim to spread historical knowledge, connect communities, and strengthen awareness of national responsibilities. Beyond the movie screenings, there will be sideline events from August 12 to 14 in Đắk Lắk Province, featuring interactions with actors, actresses, soldiers, and students.

After Đắk Lắk Province, the film campaign will travel to other cities and provinces across the country. The series of folk animations to be screened includes 'Nguồn Cội', 'Sự Tích Hoa Trạng Nguyên', and 'Chiếc Lông Gà Hư Hỏng'.

The movies to be screened will not only focus on history but also vividly reflect contemporary life and profound humanistic values. For instance, 'Bà Già Đi Bụi' tells the story of an elderly woman who embarks on a backpacking journey, while 'Flying on the Wings of Freedom' is a moving tale about a young girl's dreams and aspirations.

The aim of the movie screenings, as well as the sideline events, is to educate audiences, connect communities, and raise awareness and a sense of responsibility. This aligns with the objective of the campaign, which is to promote historical knowledge, connect communities, and strengthen awareness of national responsibilities.

One of the 14 films to be screened for free nationwide is 'Ký Ức Nam Xuân' (Nam Xuân Memories). The movie campaign is indeed a significant part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution on August 19 and National Day on September 2.
