Movies in the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror to Arrive on Netflix This Summer
Unleashing the Horrors and Thrills of Summer: Netflix's Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror Lineup
Sick of battling the crowds at movie theaters? With all the vampires, chicken jockeys, and revival hits invading your local cinema, it's not hard to see why you'd prefer snuggling up on your couch and checking out what's new on Netflix. Here are the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror titles that will send shivers down your spine or set your geek heart racing.
May 23 - Fear Street: Prom Queen
Thought Fear Street was just a trilogy? Prepare for a surprise, my friends! This new installment returns to Shadyside High in 1988, where mean girls, misfits, and mysterious disappearances are the order of the day. Matt Palmer directs, and the cast includes India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, Chris Klein, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, and Ariana Greenblatt, with Lili Taylor and Katherine Waterston along for the ride.
June 20 - KPop Demon Hunters
Get ready for an animated action-comedy about K-pop superstars doubling as demon hunters! The Sony Pictures Animation project has them juggling their fame, performance schedule, and rampant monsters. What a hectic lifestyle, huh?
The directors are Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, and the voice cast includes Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, and more. Plus, you'll see Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Byung Hun Lee adding their star power to the mix.
July 2 - The Old Guard 2
Oh boy! We'd forgotten about this one, but the 2020 original was pretty kick-ass, so we forgive the slow release schedule. Victoria Mahoney directs a powerhouse cast (Charlize Theron, Henry Golding, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Uma Thurman, and more) in another installment inspired by the Greg Rucka-Leandro Fernández comic books. Immortal warriors are back in action, protecting the world from new threats and dealing with a few complications - like Theron's character, Andy, now being human again and old foes returning. Buckle up for plenty of ass-kicking action!
July 10 - Brick
Looking for something a little more low-key? Check out Brick (not the 2005 Rian Johnson neo-noir movie), about an ordinary couple who mysteriously finds themselves trapped in their apartment building, followed by their neighbors. Can you guess who put the wall up and why?
August 13 - Fixed
From the creator of Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Primal comes Fixed, an adult animated comedy about a dog who goes all out for one last night with his mates before getting neutered. The voice cast boasts big names like Adam Devine, Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Fred Armisen, and more.
Summer (TBA) - Lost in Starlight
Netflix's first Korean-language animated film is a romantic tale about an astronaut and a musician keeping their love alive despite one being on Earth and the other on Mars.
Keep an eye on your Netflix account for more updates on these exciting titles! And if you need a sci-fi fix, consider catching up on classics like Godzilla Minus One and Okja.
