The 35th European Film Awards ceremony, held in Eldborg Harpa, Reykjavik, Iceland, was a night to remember as Ruben Östlund's "Triangle of Sadness" emerged as the biggest winner, taking home four prestigious awards.

The satirical film, which critiques the one percent, won the coveted Best European Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay awards for Östlund himself. Zlatko Burić, who starred as Dimitry, a Russian fertilizer magnate, was also awarded Best Actor for his captivating performance.

Vicky Krieps, who portrayed an Austrian empress in "Corsage," won the Best Actress award, adding another accolade to her growing list of achievements.

The European Film Awards, considered the most prestigious in European cinema, also recognised other notable films and talents. Alain Ughetto won Best Animated Feature for "No Dogs or Italians Allowed," while Laura Samani won the Fipresci-award for her first feature-length film, "Piccolo corpo (A small body)."

The Eurimage Co-Production Award was given to all Ukrainian film producers, showing solidarity with them during the Russian invasion of their country. Mariupolis by Lithuanian Mantas Kvedar won Best Documentary, with the director's daughter accepting the award as her father had passed away.

El buen Patrón from Spain won the award for Best Comedy, and Urska Djukic and Émilie Pigeard won the award for the Best Short Film, "Granny's Sexual Life." Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir and Hugleikur Dagsson were the evening's presenters.

The awards were screened live in 24 countries, including Iceland, providing a global audience with the opportunity to witness the celebration of European cinema.

Notable contenders for Best Actor included Paul Mescal for "Aftersun" and Eden Dambrine for "Close," but Zlatko Burić’s win was considered a surprise. The ceremony also took place shortly after the death of Charlbi Dean, the star of "Triangle of Sadness," to whom Östlund dedicated his award.
