Movie "Split Fiction" Announces Its Director and Initial Actor Cast

Check Out the Latest Scoop on Split Fiction's Movie Adaptation

Over a month ago, we got wind that Hazelight Studios' cooperative adventure game, Split Fiction, was heading to the big screen. Now, we've got some solid details – Jon M. Chu, director of Wicked, is set to direct, and rising star Sydney Sweeney (of Madame Web fame) will take on the lead role.

According to the grapevine at Variety, the film will be based on a screenplay penned by the scribes behind Deadpool & Wolverine. Sweeney is also set to serve as an executive producer on the project, much like she is with the upcoming Outrun adaptation. As of now, she's the sole star linked to the venture, with no word yet on who will play Mio or Zoe, the two protagonists from the game.

Split Fiction, which dropped in March, revolves around two writers – Mio, a sci-fi enthusiast, and Zoe, a fantasy aficionado – who, upon an invitation from a publishing house, test a device that makes their stories a reality. Instead, they find themselves entangled in a simulation hybrid of their fictional worlds and must find a way out before they're stuck for good and the publisher swipes all their ideas. Since its release, the game has garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, which sets the stage for a tantalizing movie adaptation.

Sweeney and Chu have plenty on their plates right now – she's shooting another season of Euphoria and will also feature in the Gundam movie, while Chu is scheduled to release Wicked: For Good later this year and will helm the 2028 Oh, the Places You'll Go! Directing gig. This means we might have to wait a bit before we can catch the Split Fiction movie.
