Movie Review: "Together" Brilliantly Combines Terrifying Horror Elements with Black Comedy Special Effects

In the world of cinema, the film 'Together' stands out as a unique and intriguing production. Directed by Pia Marais in her feature film debut in 2007, this movie made its mark at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.

Starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco, 'Together' tells the story of Millie and Tim, a couple whose relationship becomes strained after a move to the countryside. Upon waking one morning, they find their limbs temporarily joined, a bizarre occurrence that sets the stage for the film's humorous body horror.

Brie, known for her role in TV's GLOW, delivers a compelling performance as Millie, while Franco, recognised for his work in The Disaster Artist, holds his own as Tim. Their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, adding depth to the film's narrative.

The film also features a supporting role by Damon Herriman as the friendly neighbour Jamie, whose character adds an additional layer of mystery to the story as it unfolds.

'Together' is not a historically terrible movie like some of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's 2000s films. Instead, it offers a charming and dark tale, interspersed with jet-black comedy, particularly in the third act, where a Spice Girls song is cleverly incorporated.

However, it's important to note that 'Together' does contain graphic physical effects that may be disturbing to some viewers. Despite this, the film has received a positive response, with a star rating of ★★★★.

While hiking, Millie and Tim fall into a cave and spend the night there, further complicating their situation. The film's plot revolves around a curse that compels them to physically fuse together as one.

'Together' is not as scary as 'Bring her Back', but it has an astute script and well-placed leads that make it a compelling watch. It's a humorous body horror that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
