At 78 years old, Donald Trump, the former 45th President, is now serving his second term as the 47th U.S. President, following his triumphant return to the White House last January. During a recent event in Michigan, Trump boasted, as reported by ARD, about having the "most successful first 100 days of any administration in U.S. history."

The controversial political powerhouse is the focus of the groundbreaking documentary, "Back in the Game," premiering on May 5 at 8:15 PM on ARD. The film provides an unfiltered look into how Trump is swiftly implementing his "America First" policy through numerous executive orders, aimed at drastically reshaping the nation. The film tackles the essential question: "What's next for America?" by offering unvarnished insights.

Job Cuts and Deepening Political Divide

Bureaucratic cutbacks, led by Elon Musk's newly founded Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), have resulted in massive layoffs of government employees. Sean Brennan, a former federal prosecutor involved in the Capitol attack investigation, was recently fired. Addressing the camera in the documentary, Brennan asks, "What happens to a country when civil servants are asked to be loyal to a person rather than the laws?"

The film displays both political developments in Washington and the rippling effects on everyday Americans' lives. In Texas, Sheriff Boyd from Goliad is seen proudly exhibiting fully operational deportation centers, stating, "Trump is making good on his promise to deport more people from the USA." However, the touching story of young teacher Damariz Posadas from Chicago resonates deeply. She arrived in the USA with her family from Mexico at age three and now feels uneasy venturing outside her apartment due to current circumstances. "It feels like our whole life is on hold," she says, "we don't belong anywhere."

Reinterpreting History

While Trump takes the oath of office in Washington, Texas resident Tami Perryman awaits her fiancé, Brian Jackson's release. Jackson is a Capitol rioter whom Trump promised to pardon in his first act as President. Convicted for throwing a flagpole on January 6, 2021, Jackson is now counting the clock for his freedom.

For some, Trump's revisionist perspective brings hope, while others experience profound desolation. The Sickman family, whose son was killed as a police officer during the Capitol storm, finds Trump's reinterpretation of events unbearable. "The heroes of yesterday are no longer recognized – and the convicted of yesterday are the new heroes." January 6th, once deemed a dark day for American democracy, is now being reappraised as a "justified protest" by official sources.

The documentary airs on ARD and will be available in the ARD media library following its broadcast.
