Movie night revival at Cinema Elbu?
Dresden Postpones Film Nights Re-Tendering to 2027
The city of Dresden has made a decision to postpone the re-tendering process for the area hosting the popular film nights by the Elbe. The event, which includes concerts like Kaisermania, will now continue at least until the end of 2026.
The postponement, scheduled for 2027, comes as a response to concerns raised by the organizers about the short notice for the original re-tendering process. The city aims to provide more time for planning and coordination, ensuring that the event's infrastructure and organization meet future requirements effectively.
Mathias Pfitzner, the initiator of the film nights and one of the managing directors of the PAN GmbH, expressed surprise at the city's decision. However, he welcomed the opportunity to work closely with the city administration to explore an interim solution for the use of the area in 2026.
The city administration has informed the PAN GmbH about the postponement of the tender, and the contracts with the "film night makers" have been extended until the end of 2026. The PAN GmbH is currently preparing for the tender, which has been postponed until 2027.
In addition, the PAN GmbH will have a personal meeting at the town hall to discuss the use of the area in 2026. A resolution regarding this decision will be submitted to the city council for decision later this year.
The city's decision also allows for a more refined project, accommodating any necessary adjustments prompted by urban development plans or regulatory changes. The film nights by the Elbe will continue to bring entertainment and culture to the city, with the possibility of concerts like Kaisermania in 2026, if an interim solution is found.
The postponement of the re-tendering process for the area hosting the film nights by the Elbe in Dresden, set for 2027, has opened a path for discussions about potential interim solutions for entertainment like movies-and-tv events in 2026. The PAN GmbH, the organizers of the film nights, are preparing for the rescheduled tender while aiming to ensure the continuation of the event's cultural offerings in the city.
