Movie author Stephen King proposes his preferred actor for portraying him in a film production, with Mike Flanagan advised to heed King's exceptional selection.
In an exciting revelation for fans of Stephen King, Mike Flanagan's latest film, The Life Of Chuck, has been unveiled to contain a hidden link to the epic Doctor Sleep. The connection between the two films remains a mystery, but it adds another layer of intrigue to The Life Of Chuck, which has been acclaimed for its life-affirming drama filled with love and sadness, a departure from the fear that often permeates King's works.
The Life Of Chuck is a change of pace for Flanagan, being more in the spirit of The Shawshank Redemption than The Shining. This shift in tone is reflective of the film's storyline, which follows Chuck, a man struggling with his past, much like Andy Dufresne in Shawshank.
Stephen King himself has expressed his admiration for Kyle MacLachlan, stating that he would be his preferred choice to play him in a biopic about his life. Although King joked about wanting a "good-looking leading man" like Brad Pitt, he feels Pitt is too good-looking compared to himself. King believes MacLachlan would be a better fit because he more closely matches his current look, especially given his "elderly side" now. MacLachlan, known for his tall lead role in Twin Peaks, was a natural choice for King, who referenced the series when explaining his choice.
However, MacLachlan might not be the ideal choice to play the young King who first gets the inspiration to write the story of hero Roland Deschain. But he could potentially play the 52-year-old version of the writer who nearly loses his life in an accident.
The Life Of Chuck is not just a film; it's a treasure trove of Easter eggs for King fans. In the "Buskers Forever" section, a cherry red 1958 Plymouth Fury can be spotted, a nod to the car that inspired Stephen King's Christine.
Flanagan is currently developing an adaptation of the Dark Tower series, which, in the latter books, sees King himself become a character. For physical media collectors, The Life Of Chuck can be pre-ordered on 4K UHD and Blu-ray ahead of its September 30 release date.
The upcoming omnibus, The End Of The World As We Know It: New Tales Of Stephen King's The Stand, is set to arrive in stores on August 19. This collection includes contributions from Paul Tremblay, Richard Chizmar, Joe R. Lansdale, Scott Ian, Alma Katsu, Josh Malerman, Wayne Brady, Tananarive Due, and others. An excerpt from one of the stories, titled "Grace", has been published by People, both in text and audiobook form.
The Life Of Chuck was released in theaters this summer following its premiere late last year at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film also features cameos from Eric Vespe and Scott Wampler, co-hosts of the popular podcast The Kingcast.
