Movie adaptation of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty': Anticipated storyline potentially based on book series.
In an exciting development for fans of the beloved series, it has been announced that a movie adaptation of 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' is in the works. The production details for the film are currently under wraps, but it's been confirmed that the project will be produced by Prime Video.
The title for the film remains undecided as of now, but the series' creator, Jenny Han, is set to write and direct the feature film continuation. Han, along with Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno, were present at the announcement made during the red carpet finale premiere in Paris.
The finale of the series, which was written by Han and co-showrunner Sarah Kucserka, and directed by Jesse Peretz, saw Belly (Tung) and Conrad (Briney) rekindling their spark during a "Before Sunrise"-esque day together. The final three episodes expanded on the book's epilogue, setting it in Paris instead of Spain, with Conrad arriving a year later to surprise Belly on her birthday.
The movie will focus on a major milestone in Belly's journey, likely her wedding to Conrad, and will also delve into the lives of other characters. Steven (Sean Kaufman) and Taylor (Rain Spencer) are navigating the next steps of their own relationship, while Jeremiah (Casalegno), now an up-and-coming chef, has moved on from his breakup with Belly and is forging a romantic connection with former co-worker Denise (Isabella Briggs).
Jenny Han has hinted at potential details for a 'Summer' feature film, including the letter Susannah wrote to Belly before her death, a "Bonrad" wedding, and a final scene with the pair on the beach. However, the person who will write the screenplay and direct the planned movie has not been specified yet.
Some fans on social media have expressed their excitement and anticipation for the film, while also expressing their desire to see more of Belly and Conrad's love story, as well as book moments like their wedding, closure for other characters, and a reunion of the whole Cousins crew.
Eagle-eyed viewers like TikTok creator @bookbeedani have speculated that a Dec. 14 Christmas special might be in the works, based on the numbers "12" and "14" appearing throughout the episodes and holiday hints. As of now, a release date for the film has not been announced.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new chapter in 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' universe.
