Heads Up, Bruckhausen: A Farewell to the Larger-Than-Life Honcho, Gottfried Benninghoff

Bruckhausen bids adieu to its swashbuckling honorary chairman, Gottfried Benninghoff, who bid his final farewell on May 10 at the tender age of 81. Benninghoff served as the club's first chairman for an impressive 28 years, from 1987 to March 2015. Previously, he excelled as the club's chief gymnastics instructor. In a touching twist of events in 2015, he reluctantly yielded his turf to Martin Okruta-Römer at his faithful wife, Ulrike's insistence, and was bestowed the title of the club's first honorary chairman.

A Man of Action and Charisma

The club's official obituary reads, "He was a man of action and responsibility, and he loved socializing. Someone who embodied the volunteer role entirely." Benninghoff and TVB (Tenderingssee Baggerloch) had a bond that was unbreakable. The club owes significantly to him, courtesy of his generous and lively demeanor.

His youth was spent in athletics, where he shone brightly and set numerous records that made him immensely proud. He carried his active spirit into his senior years, maintaining a passive presence in the team. He was a frequent sight on the seniors' trips and took a keen interest in the women's handball division, financially backing their ascent to the regional league. Benninghoff was an ardent and steadfast spectator at their games.

TVB Honors Benninghoff: A Man of Unwavering Commitment

Benninghoff valiantly proposed and executed the project of creating a surfing haven at the old Tenderingssee Baggerloch site. He was also pivotal in the establishment of the beloved beach bath in 1996. After he parted ways from the board, Benninghoff and his wife Ulrike were granted, among other things, lifetime free access to the beach bath, which they made full use of. While others frolicked in the water, the couple took their laps in the lake. Their two grandchildren, too, have basked in the "wonderful water," as Benninghoff fondly referred to it.

"He was a person who brought happiness to many and brought joy to our club," expresses TVB of its honorary chairman. "We will miss him dearly - not just the man, but his unyielding dedication. We will always remember his work with gratitude."
