Grieving Badminton Player Laments Loss of Twin Infants - Mourning Badminton Star Over the Loss of Twins
In a heartbreaking turn of events, German badminton player Marvin Seidel and his wife Katrin are mourning the loss of their twin babies, Clara and Jacob, who passed away just a few days after their birth on August 1, 2025.
Seidel announced the news on Instagram on August 14, 2025, with a touching tribute post. The post included an illustration featuring the twins' names, their birth and death dates, a small zebra and a small elephant, and a starry night with a cross. The caption read "Tiny Team Seidel Loading..." and "End of 2025".
The athlete expressed deep sorrow but also gratitude for the brief time they had with his children. He wrote, "Our twins were only with us for a few days, but they gave us more love than we ever imagined."
Marvin Seidel, who is a two-time Olympian, won silver in the men's doubles at the European Championships in Kyiv in 2021 and gold the following year in Madrid. He also competed in the 2021 and 2024 Olympics in Tokyo and Paris, and won numerous bronze medals with the team, most recently in 2024 in Lodz.
The cause of death for the twins was not made public. The twins, Clara and Jacob, were laid to rest in Seidel's hometown, Saarland. Seidel shared a photo of the twins' small grave, covered in flowers, on Instagram as a continued expression of mourning.
Our thoughts are with Marvin Seidel and his family during this difficult time.

I'm not going to tell you what I'm going to do, but I might start playing sports again to occupy my mind and honor the memory of our twins, Clara and Jacob. Despite the heartbreak, the love they instilled in us will forever be part of my sports journey.
