Mountain tragedy: Death of Laura Dahlmeier confirmed
In a tragic turn of events, Laura Dahlmeier, a double Olympic champion and former biathlon star from Germany, lost her life in a mountaineering accident on July 28, 2025. She was 31 years old.
Born and raised in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, Dahlmeier started her career in biathlon with a bang, winning numerous victories and multiple world championships. Despite rescue efforts launched immediately, poor weather conditions and ongoing risks of falling rocks prevented a timely rescue operation. Dahlmeier's body was found at approximately 5,700 meters altitude, and it was later confirmed that she died instantly from the severity of her injuries.
Marina Eva, Dahlmeier's climbing partner, survived the accident, managing to send a distress call and descend to base camp with rescuers' help.
